Finish Well! Very apt. Saw this signage on my morning run. At a time when most people and companies are shutting down…. do you have some last minute targets/goals still left unchecked….? Are you feeling the pressure of ending the year along with others – and yet you still have many in-completes? Truth be told, if you can’t resist the pressure of the season, your best bet may be to actually take a break, especially if you are struggling to maintain focus. No need to stress out with starting fresh projects or pressing through a door that may just cause you to break down. At this stage in the year, for most people – the best strategy would be to slow down while remaining alert- Take time though to clean out your in-completes before packing up i.e. Anything that’s going to take up head space while you are on holiday….taking a break while your mind is racing is no break- . Sometimes finishing well includes making a mental note that this is “Work in Progress”, which I’ll come back to in the new year. If it involves others- contact them and put a closure to their expectation of you by indicating a “return date” on an outstanding timeline or obligation. Whatever you do- don’t finish by leaving “in-completes “… they’ll steal your joy and leave you feeling incompetent and apprehensive when the new year starts.
3 Simple steps to take now to FINISH WELL:
1. Write your VICTORY LIST for this year. See link in bio for how powerful this list is and why you must have one.
2. Write your ‘INCOMPLETE’ list, then go ahead and finish well by wrapping up what’s absolutely critical. Place a hold on those that can wait -with clear action steps and ‘return to project dates’ attached to them. That way your brain has instruction that an action has been taken – and postpones any pressure or expectation.
3. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR PROGRESS. Give yourself a pat on the back or a personal high five! Exhale! You never finish well until you’ve acknowledged how far you’ve come. Here’s to a restful holiday.
Ps. Remember not everyone is on holiday now- so don’t feel the need to shut down if this isn’t your holiday season. Keep doing your thing. Stay on your lane. 😀 #successprincipleswithudo
