What a month. Some great memorable moments. Many mountains climbed and surmounted. Some trials. A lot of pressure. Such terrible conflicts and some really scary news. BUT – through it all, the WORD stood and will continue to stand for you as we declare and welcome a SPECTACULAR, SUCCESSFUL & STRATEGIC SEPTEMBER.
I am delighted to personally welcome YOU to a Season to of New Beginnings. A Season to Develop New Success Strategies. To Achieve New Ignited Levels. A Season to be truly Spectacular.
September is a time to strategically reposition for a Strong Finish!
Here’s our monthly Ignited Theme for this Month and I hope it inspires you.
S – SUCCESS STRATEGIES: Develop success strategies for a STRONG FINISH.
E – EXECUTION: Strategies won’t do you any good if you don’t execute them.
P – POSITION FOR STRATEGIC GROWTH. Not just growth for its’ sake.
T – TARGETS: Embrace Targets. Use them to motivate and keep you disciplined.
E – EXCELLENCE: Practice the Art of Excellence. EXCEED EXPECTATION. Don’t accept anything other than the best standards of yourself and others.
M – MOMENTUM: Build Momentum through Consistency & Commitment. Become unstoppable. Use this as a competitive advantage at work and in business.
B – BREAK NEW GROUNDS: Set Breakthrough Goals. Commit to Game Changing Goals that will dramatically move you to higher levels at work or in your business.
E – ENTHUSIASM: DEVELOP IT. You will need large doses to succeed when the going gets tough, as it surely will.
R – RESULTS: Reach for REAL MEASURABLE Results. Only be satisfied with tangible results. Don’t settle! No excuses!

PS. As part of my long term success strategy and to prevent burnout, I’m taking the month of September off blogging to prepare for the rest of 2014 and 2015. In addition, my website although still available will be under review. It will be relaunched in the lead up to my birthday on October 31st. Weekly Ignited Moments (Inspirational Nuggets) will continue weekly with excerpts from my online administrator.
More on IGNITED MOMENTS: I have always loved photography but I’ve recently developed it into a new sport. What I refer to as capturing IGNITED MOMENTS – The art of ‘Mindfulness and Appreciation‘ of every waking moment through photography. Lately I’ve woken up daily to watch the sun rise and try to capture it setting. I also look for beautiful scenery, and ‘live‘ moments to capture. I’ve found this to be a real blessing as it forces you to become more intentional about recognizing and appreciating life more. Smelling the roses we encounter daily is a true delight and a sport I recommend highly. It helps with leaders with perspective and is easily done with our most indispensable gadget – the mobile phone/device.
S: SUCCESS STRATEGIES. Develop Success Strategies for a STRONG FINISH. To Ignite a Spectacular September, you’ve got to become “Strategic” and develop success principles to guide you. It’s a time to “Start Afresh“on many levels. To review results and come up with new ways of achieving even better outcomes.
Most school years begin in September (even though unfortunately in Nigeria, schools have had to be postponed until October 13th due to the Ebola outbreak). I understand even the Jewish new year starts in September. September typically represents new seasons and new beginnings. The holidays for most people are just wrapping up. Most schools will do a review of previous work and craft success strategies for each student on how to achieve their goals building on their previous academic year’s results. There’s something fresh about September that encourages a re-assessment and re strategizing but with an eye towards developing “Success Strategies” for a “Strong Finish” not just strategies for its’ sake.
My first daughter just started at a leading U.S University (yes proud mummy talk) on the 22nd of August, and on the last day of August, we delivered my 13 year old son to his new senior school. It was truly a memorable moment for the whole family. Of course boarding schools aren’t anything like they used to be. Still, it was a new school, new beginning for him, and for us, including an opportunity to adopt new parenting strategies. We will need to trust him a little bit more with decisions. According to his House master, they don’t take phones from them at night anymore because they may hand in dummy phones. Instead they expect them to do the right thing (and put in place strategies to monitor them). Hmmm! A question of decisions and consequences. Never too early to learn a sense of responsibility.
The new school season has provided us an opportunity to discuss and create new success strategies for our children, with regards to their goals and aspirations, drawing their attention to areas for improvement and how to achieve those improvements. Certainly, we will now need to factor in more trips into their school locations as additional checks and balance. I have no doubt, that this could lead me to strategically find more things to do around those locations, new business opportunities, or even more professional development courses? Who knows. (don’t be surprised if I go back to school – there’s something about great school environments that encourages reflection and re-strategising).
STRATEGIES FOR A STRONG FINISH.
Talking about strategies for a strong finish, nothing brings it home better than the example of my second daughter’s report. She’s returning to the same school in a few days. Naturally talented, she effortlessly achieves high grades. Interestingly, despite this, her school report has asked her to be more strategic as she approaches her GCSE year in 2015. They have asked her to become more focused on the core GCSE exams curriculum. Instead of attempting to do many talent based activities and exploratory learning (she’s an avid reader and researcher and will usually go over and above the specified materials in her spare time, sometimes losing track), they have advised her very strongly to rein in her intellectual curiosity and for this next season to achieve the level of results they believe she is capable of, she must focus on the core curriculum. She was initially disappointed because it went against her impression that education was about exploring deeply and widely, but in her words, ‘mummy I’ve realised school is about “passing exams” and I’m going to focus on that and give them what they want’. I’d say that’s wise for now. I wonder how many of us need to re-strategise and really determine what it is our companies or clients need or require versus what we think they would like?
PATHWAYS To Breakthrough Results: Don’t think outside the box. Break the Box!
It’s instructive that the first day of September 2014 is a Monday. Signifying a new week, a new beginning, and a day most companies do their weekly meetings. I wonder whether it’s possible to review the way these meetings are run this month. Break out of the mode. Move the meeting to a different location, a different room even, change the format. Stand throughout the meetings maybe? Ask people to speak only if they will contribute something outside the norm. Question the Status Quo. Break things that seem to be working perfectly. Come up with better ways to deliver results. Invite people to rethink the way they normally start their week, and try doing something radically different. Instead of just doing paper work and boring meetings as most do on Mondays, how about making calls, scheduling meetings, or sending emails to all your clients and saying thank you for your business and asking them how you can help them achieve their results this month and the rest of the year. Invite them to lunch. Send them flowers, gifts, or an industry report that is not yet in circulation. Do something new and that adds value.
How about taking off the whole day today, or deciding that for a few hours each week, you will have ‘strategic-result-targeted-
